The amended “Right to Ordinance” legislation, which will see retailers posting informational notices and informing customers about the radiation levels of specific devices on request, was met with unanimous approval this week by the City Operations and Neighbourhood Services Committee.

Ellen Marks, director of government and public affairs for the Environmental Health Trust said, “Now, especially in light of the World Health Organization classifying cell phone radiation as a possible carcinogen based on studies proving long-term use causes lethal brain tumours, this legislation is most definitely warranted.”

CITA responded to this, with director of external and state affairs for CITA, Gerry Keegan,  arguing that, “the law places an undue burden to retailers and that it’s unnecessary since all cell phones sold in the United States currently meet federal standards for RF safety.”
